Latin America is home to an incredibly diverse array of vital ecosystems, and the scientific community there is passionate about studying and preserving these natural treasures. However, training in eddy covariance is often stymied by challenges like language barriers, visa issues, costs, and distance. Despite these obstacles, the region boasts around 100 eddy flux sites, with 56 affiliated with AmeriFlux and many others on the cusp of joining. These sites are crucially linked with national, regional, and global networks.
In response to this pressing need, the AmeriFlux Science Steering Committee, Fluxcourse leadership, AmeriFlux Management Project, and Fluxnet Education Committee are thrilled to announce the first-ever workshop on Ecosystem Fluxes – TAFE (Taller de Aprendizaje de Flujos Ecosistémicos), to be entirely taught in Spanish and hosted in Latin America!
TAFE will be divided into 2 fronts:
- Educational Experience Exchange in Ecosystem Fluxes: Instructors for TAFE will be trained by expert scientists to collaboratively design the detailed training plan for the workshop – March 26-28, 2025, in Mexico City, Mexico. Instructor application deadline is Jan 31st.
- TAFE Workshop: Attendees will explore the theoretical foundations, instrumentation, data collection, processing, and analysis techniques. The workshop will feature a dynamic blend of lectures, hands-on sessions, and field demonstrations, providing a comprehensive and engaging learning experience in Spanish for the Latin American Community – June 22 – July 5, 2025, in INECOL, Xalapa-Coatepec, México. Student application deadline is March 28.
