We are looking for two highly motivated individuals to fill two postdoc positions (Université de Montréal [UdeM] and Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières). Working as part of a larger team including university and government scientists (e.g., Environment and Climate Change Canada [ECCC]), the two individuals will work on different aspects of a recently funded three-year project aiming to enhance the process-based simulation of boreal forest plant hydraulic functioning in a terrestrial ecosystem model with the use of remotely sensed passive microwave vegetation optical depth. The two postdoctoral positions are available for three years ($45,000
CAD/year plus benefits).
Postdoc_1: Passive microwave remote sensing. Based at UQTR and co-supervised by Drs. Alexandre Roy/UQTR and Oliver Sonnentag/UdeM, Postdoc_1 will develop tree hydraulic trait and soil moisture data products based on remotely sensed passive microwave information (e.g., vegetation optical depth) for use in terrestrial ecosystem model development and refinement.
Postdoc_2: Terrestrial ecosystem model development. Based at UdeM and co-supervised by Drs. Joe Melton/ECCC and Oliver Sonnentag with input from the entire team, Postdoc_2 will lead model development efforts towards increasing the tree hydraulics realism in the Canadian Land Surface Scheme including Biogeochemical Cycles (CLASSIC): https://cccma.gitlab.io/classic_pages/
Ideal applicants for these positions should have a strong background in data analysis and scientific programming obtained through a doctoral degree in ecology, biogeosciences, environmental sciences, satellite remote sensing, earth system science, etc. The motivation to contribute to interdisciplinary research is essential.
Please email questions regarding the positions and application packages consisting of cover letter, curriculum vitae, an English writing sample (ideally a publication), copies of academic credentials, and names and contact information of at least two referees to:
