Postdoctoral Position in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management – University of California, Berkeley

A postdoctoral position at 100% time is available with an expected start date of January 5, 2015
in the area of atmosphere-biosphere exchange. Responsiblities will include: analyzing and manipulating long-term and comprehensive data sets on carbon, water and energy exchange between vegetation and the atmosphere to fulfill goals of the FLUXNET project. Other job responsibilities will include: organizing workshops for data synthesis and model testing activities; assisting investigators and the data-archive scientists in the submission and documentation of data for the project website and the production of updated, gap-filled data set$s; producing peer-reviewed research papers, newsletters and reports on FLUXNET activities and analysis and other day-to-day activities of the FLUXNET project.

Basic Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed all degree requirements, excluding the dissertation, for a PhD or equivalent in Biogeosciences, Biogeochemistry, Ecosystem or a related field at the time of application.

Additional Qualifications:
PhD or equivalent in Biogeosciences, Biogeochemistry, Ecosystem or a related field by expected start date.

Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of micrometerology and eddy convariance flux measurements; skills in geostatistics and be able to program in a computer language such as Matlab/R, C, python or FORTRAN. Additional skills in geographical information system and experience working with remote sensing data, Bayesian statistics and large databases are a plus. The ideal candidate will also have published peer-reviewed papers and have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Appointment:
The targeted start date for this position is January 5, 2015. The appointment is for 100% time for
a period of one-year with renewal based on performance and funding availability.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience ($42,000 – $49,128).
